Daytime activities for seniors

We define our daytime activities for two types of target groups:dagcentrum 2015

        • Seniors with mild forgetfulness, Parkinson’s, stroke, aphasia and/or other restrictions
        • Elderly people who are looking for a meaningful way of filling their day and hereby preventing isolation

We strive to keep the intimate character of out day center. For daytime activities we have a maximum of 14 participants per day. The way people find their way to us can be devided in four groups:
Potential participants are generally referred by general practitioners, mental health department, dementia case Managers and elderly advisers.

But even without direct reference, participants and their caregivers find us and are welcome to come and have a coffee and get acquainted with the Amsteltuin.

Daycare for seniors

dagbesteding4 days a week, day care is provided for older forgetful or slightly demented people who are looking for an inspiring environment. Their carers are explicitly involved in the program and are invited to participate in a greater or lesser extent in the activities.

Target audience

We focus on the group of clients in the “memory clinic” or who have just been diagnosed by their doctor as forgetful.

Given the good accessibility of the site and the building, we are also easily accessible for people with physical limitations. There must be a certain self-sufficiency however. Where there is explicit runaway behavior or problems with personal care or aggressive behavior, daytime activities on the Amsteltuin can not be continued. In these situations we will discuss a responsible solution with the case managers and carers.

Typical for the way the Amsteltuin operates is that things are offered to stimulate the mind and stimulate activity. dagcentrum 2015 1Both mental and physical activities are offered to suit the individual potential. The communal moments are a great stimulant for the mind and provide fun and socializing. The mutual support that they offer each other is often a joy to behold.
If the weather allows it we will usually take a stroll or sit outside on the terrace. Some contribute by some raking or hoeing.
The mind is ultimately cognitively stimulated by stories, music and courses.
Highlight of the day is lunch which is prepared with each other and then enjoyed thoroughly. As soon as the weather is nice enough, we enjoy our lunch outside.

The carers

The carers are just as important as the client to us. To support them, they can also participate in (parts of) the day’s activities. We also have regular talks with the caregivers so we can exchange our experiences and problems.
Both “Steunpunt Mantelzorg” as “Vita Welzijn” have specialist programs for the carers. We are happy to refer to these meetings when needed.
Once every three months a broad consultation with clients and caregivers is organized to optimize the daily activities of De Amsteltuin.
Finally, once every six months we provide individual feedback to client and carer for the past period.
In this way, De Amsteltuin hopes to contribute to increasing the quality of life for many older people and their carers.
